Socialnatter was started with the intention of providing a forum to discuss socio-political and theoretical issues relating to Sri Lanka in particular, and the region of South Asia in general. It is open to as many wide-ranging issues as its contributors have interests in.
Posts on all aspects of issues including (but not limited to) ethnicity, politics, history, nationalism, gender, development, foreign policy, literature, the arts, media, cultural politics and current events will be welcomed. Critiques and reviews of books and research papers dealing with issues of theoretical interest or those related to Sri Lanka or the region are also welcome.
Anyone interested in Sri Lanka social issues is invited to join the list, including students at both school and university levels.
Recent events have necessitated us to verify the identities of all potential subscribers in order to maintain the integrity of the list. While this is in no way meant to be a deterrent to anyone wishing to join, it would enable a higher degree of civility and responsibility when discussing issues which, at times, could be sensitive to some members.
